Flamboyant India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has reportedly been ruled out of Mumbai’s upcoming Ranji Trophy semifinal against Vidarbha to be played in Jamtha, Nagpur from Monday.

As per a report in TOI, Yashasvi Jaiswal will play no part in the domestic match due to left ankle pain and will travel to the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru for further assessment and treatment.

“Jaiswal has been ruled out of the Ranji Trophy semifinals clash as he is suffering from a left ankle pain. He fielded in Mumbai’s practice session today (Sunday) at Nagpur but looked uncomfortable while batting in the nets. It is an old injury which has recurred. He has to leave for the BCCI’s Centre of excellence tomorrow to start his recovery process,” TOI quoted a source as saying.

Mumbai’s Jaiswal and Shivam Dube are among the non-travelling substitutes for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, meaning they will travel to Dubai only if necessary.

Jaiswal’s exclusion from the Mumbai squad casts doubt over the 23-year-old participation in Dubai.

The young India opening batter was initially named in India’s preliminary squad for the Champions Trophy but was omitted from the final list.

Jaiswal’s lone Ranji Trophy appearance this season saw him score 4 and 26 in Mumbai’s shocking five-wicket loss to Jammu & Kashmir.

The explosive left-handed opener, however, impressed in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy with 391 runs in five Tests at an average of 43.44, including one century and two half-centuries.

The upcoming last-four stage clash between Mumbai and Vidarbha will be a rerun of the Ranji final between the two teams last season, in which the former won to lift their 42nd title in the premier domestic tournament.

The team was picked by the senior selection committee of the Mumbai Cricket Association consisting of chairman Sanjay Patil, Ravi Thaker, Jeetendra Thackeray, Kiran Powar and Vikrant Yeligeti.

The TOI report also adds that Mumbai selectors are unlikely to announce a replacement for Jaiswal, with the youngster himself being added as the 18th player in the squad.
