Here’s a look at the top five leading run scorers in men’s and women’s T20Is in 2024.

The Indian men’s cricket team ended its 11-year-long wait for an ICC trophy in 2024 by winning the T20 World Cup title. The Rohit Sharma-led side managed to get the better of South Africa by seven runs in the final played at Kensington Oval in Barbados on June 29. Apart from the Indian men’s side, the New Zealand women’s team also ended the long wait for an elusive T20 World Cup title. The White Ferns defeated South Africa by 32 runs in the summit clash played at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on October 20.

While India won 24 out of 26 T20Is played in 2024, the leading run scorers list is dominated by players from associate nations.

Leading run scorers in men’s T20Is in 2024

Muhammad Waseem (UAE) – 909 runs

UAE batter Muhammad Waseem topped the run-getters chart in T20Is in 2024. He played in a total of 26 matches, and with the help of one century and eight fifties, he scored 909 runs. His strike rate in T20Is was 160.03, and on three occasions he failed to open his account.

Kendel Kadowaki-Fleming (Japan) – 860 runs

Japan’s 28-year-old left-handed batter Kendel Kadowaki-Fleming scored 860 runs in 20 matches to take the No. 2 position in the list of leading run scorers. His T20I batting average in T20Is was 50.58.

Nizakat Khan (Hong Kong) – 784 runs

Nizakat Khan played 28 T20I matches for Hong Kong in 2024 and scored 784 runs. The right-handed batter crossed the 50-run mark on five occasions, and his best score in the shortest format was 81.

Alishan Sharafu (UAE) – 770 runs

Alishan Sharafu, who is a top-order batter, amassed a total of 770 runs in 24 T20I matches for the United Arab Emirates in 2024. He smacked 82 fours, which is the most by any player, and scored seven half-centuries.

Babar Azam (Pakistan) – 738 runs

Former Pakistani captain Babar Azam scored 738 runs in 24 T20Is played in 2024. The right-handed batter, however, failed to do much for the Men in Green in the T20 World Cup 2024, where his side suffered a shocking first-round exit after losing back-to-back matches against the USA and India.

The left-handed opening batter played 23 matches and scored 763 runs, which is also a record for scoring the most runs in a calendar year in women’s T20Is. She scored 8 half-centuries in 2024, which helped her break the record of most fifties in women’s T20Is.

Chamari Athapaththu (Sri Lanka) – 720 runs

Sri Lankan women’s cricket team captain Chamari Athapaththu played 21 T20Is in 2024 and scored 720 runs. Under her leadership, Sri Lanka defeated India to win the women’s Asia Cup title for the first time in history.

Esha Oza (UAE) – 711 runs

UAE batter Esha Oza scored 711 runs in 20 T20Is for the United Arab Emirates in 2024. She scored 1 century and four half-centuries.

Laura Wolvaardt (South Africa) – 673 runs

Laura Wolvaardt is captain of South Africa’s women’s cricket team, and she led them to the final of the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup. Wolvaardt played 19 T20Is for SA in 2024 and scored 673 runs.

Gaby Lewis (Ireland) – 606 runs

All-rounder Gaby Lewis amassed a total of 606 runs in 18 T20I matches for Ireland to finish as the fifth leading run scorer in the shortest format of the game in 2024.
