Yashvardhan Dalal remains unbeaten on 426 off 463 balls against Mumbai.
Haryana’s opening batter, Yashvardhan Dalal created history on Saturday as he set the new record for the highest individual score by a batter in the Col CK Nayudu Trophy by becoming the first person to score a quadruple century.
He remains unbeaten on 426 off 463 balls against Mumbai in the match taking place at the Gurugram Cricket Ground in Sultanpur. The tournament which was played with the U-25 age cap in the previous two seasons, saw it being reverted to the U-23 format.
Dalal alongside his opening partner Arsh Ranga went on to hit a mammoth 410-run partnership for the first wicket. Ranga was eventually dismissed for 151 but Dalal did not have any plans of heading back to the dugout.
Despite the regular loss of wickets from one end, the young batter looked to keep his end secured as he ended up facing 463 deliveries where he smashed 46 boundaries and 12 maximums in his innings so far. At the end of the second day’s play, Haryana now sits at 732/8 at the end of 176 overs at stumps on day 2.
Haryana were in dire need of a knock like this as they are yet to pick up a win in the tournament. Their first game against Madhya Pradesh ended in a draw while their previous game against Jharkhand resulted in a crushing loss by 9 wickets.
Interestingly, Dalal was promoted to the top of the order after having lacklustre performances at the number three position for Haryana. He had only one major score of 67 that came against Jharkhand. But the management’s decision to push him to the top of the order has paid dividends.
Dalal has also gone past the Chennai Super Kings batter, Sameer Rizvi from Uttar Pradesh to now hold the record for the highest individual score in the tournament. Rizvi held the record for scoring 312 runs in UP’s game against Saurashtra in February, earlier this year.
