Former PAK cricketer Danish Kaneria has taken an unprecedented wild swing at Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif after the Pahalgam terror attack, accusing him of ‘sheltering and nurturing terrorists’.
At least 26 civilians were shot dead, with several others injured, by terrorists who opened fire in the popular tourist location of Pahalgam in South Kashmir on Tuesday.
The terror attack took place in the Baisaran Valley, a scenic meadow situated in Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination about 30 miles southeast of Srinagar, on Tuesday, sending shockwaves throughout the country.
The Resistance Front (TRF), which is a part of the banned Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror group, claimed responsibility for the attack, one of the worst in the region in recent years.
The attack drew strong condemnation from across the world, including various prominent figures from all facets of life, such as Kaneria himself, who spoke out against the cruel attack on social media.
Why is it that they never target local Kashmiris, but consistently attack Hindus — be it Kashmiri Pandits or Hindu tourists from across India? Because terrorism, no matter how it’s disguised, follows one ideology — and the whole world is paying the price for it. #Pahalgam— Danish Kaneria (@DanishKaneria61) April 23, 2025
But, the PAK spinner was nowhere near done, as he then followed it up with a strongly-worded attack on Pakistan PM Sharif next.
Kaneria questioned why Sharif hadn’t condemned the attack personally yet, accusing the silence of the PM of being equivalent to a reflection of the ‘truth’: a personal belief that Sharif’s government was ‘sheltering and nurturing terrorists’.
If Pakistan truly has no role in the Pahalgam terror attack, why hasn’t Prime Minister @CMShehbaz condemned it yet? Why are your forces suddenly on high alert? Because deep down, you know the truth — you’re sheltering and nurturing terrorists. Shame on you.— Danish Kaneria (@DanishKaneria61) April 23, 2025
“If Pakistan truly has no role in the Pahalgam terror attack, why hasn’t Prime Minister @CMShehbaz condemned it yet?” Kaneria wrote on X.
“Why are your forces suddenly on high alert?”
“Because deep down, you know the truth — you’re sheltering and nurturing terrorists. Shame on you,” Kaneria added.
His post invariably invited intense backlash and scrutiny, yet Kaneria stood firm, reinstating that his questions weren’t meant to demonise Pakistan, but to question the leadership.
I am not speaking against Pakistan or its people. The Awam of Pakistan have suffered the most at the hands of terrorism. They deserve leadership that stands for peace, not one that shelters terrorists or stays silent when innocents are murdered.I once wore Pakistan’s jersey… https://t.co/CDf17g0pkz

“I am not speaking against Pakistan or its people. The Awam of Pakistan have suffered the most at the hands of terrorism. They deserve leadership that stands for peace, not one that shelters terrorists or stays silent when innocents are murdered,” Kaneria stated in another post on X.
“I once wore Pakistan’s jersey with pride. I gave my sweat and blood on the cricket field. But in the end, I was treated no differently than the victims of the Pahalgam attack — targeted simply for being Hindu.”
“Shame on those who justify terror. Shame on those who protect killers. I stand with truth. I stand with humanity. And I believe the people of Pakistan do too. Don’t mislead them. Don’t stand with evil,” he ended his post.
Accusations may fly high currently, such as Kaneria’s, but it is imperative to focus on the bigger picture — the realities of those affected — and to question those in power for their inadequacies and downfalls, too.
This tragic event in Pahalgam highlights the enduring complexities and dangers in the Kashmir region, emphasizing the need for sustained efforts to address the underlying issues fueling such violence.
